The False Start

"Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9

Early in 1999, in February, we were contacted by family friends in South Carolina about a potential adoption. He is a pastor of a church, and his wife called us to tell us about a young lady in the church who was expecting a child, and was interested in placing the baby for adoption.

We were excited at the news, and quickly sent the birth mother a letter about ourselves, along with some pictures. We contracted with Bethany Christian Services to provide her with counseling services, and legal services for a designated, private adoption. In March, she indicated that she was interested in placing her baby with us.

The baby was due at the end of July, so we pushed to get our home study in June. Around the time the first home study session was scheduled, we found out that she had changed her mind. She decided to parent the baby. We were very disappointed, to say the least. The home study was postponed, unrelated to the changed circumstances.

July was a busy month for us. Danna (David's sister) got married, and then we went to the Wilds with the teens. By the time August showed up, and still no home study, we were surprised to find out that Bethany had been going through some changes in the Raleigh office. Would our home study ever get done? We still had a lingering hope that perhaps the birth mother would decide to place with us, and wanted to be ready in that event. It didn't happen that way, though.
