What makes a good game? There are so many games, and so much junk, that it's hard for me to justify spending money on them! I have purchased many games, of course, but here are the free gems from my (not particularly fanatical) gaming experience. I like a puzzle, but it has to be fun while it's at it.

1. Daniel Skoraszewsky Blobby Volley 1.8 ( 7/1/2001, 795kb ) ) Blobby Volley is an action-filled multiplayer-capable, addictive , simple game. It is a volleyball game for normally 2 players. But it is also possible to play against one of 3 different computer controlled opponents or to watch 2 computer players playing against each other. In fact, most fun is playing with a friend. Caution: It ist possible, that, after a match with a friend, the keyboard or the mouse is not there where it was when the game began. (This doens't mean that playing against the computer is less fun. Even the easy one is a challenge - for beginners)

2. Michael Welch DX Ball 1.09 ( 12/20/1998, 820kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) Got to be the all-time best game. Simple, addictive, and slick graphics that run on any Windows 95+ system. Use a paddle to bounce the ball into the bricks and get the high score!

3. Phenomedia Moorhuhn 2 1.1 ( 5730kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) A great stress-relief game. Pull out your shotgun and pick off the flying turkeys, if you're fast enough. Watch out for some of the ads on the company's website, it's for a German magazine.

4. Phenomedia Moorfrosch XS V10 ( 8830kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) Kind of like Frogger - get the frog through all the traffic to win the game.

5. IconGameLab Snowcraft  ( 1970kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) Get in a snowball fight, and see how long you and your friends can avoid getting whitewashed!

Puzzle

1. Thinking Rabbit Sokoban 1.5 ( 1280kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) Sokoban means warehouse keeper in Japanese. The object of the game is to push boxes (or balls) into their correct position in a crowded warehouse with a minimal number of pushes and moves. The boxes can only be pushed, never pulled, and only one can be pushed at a time. It sounds easy, but the levels range from very easy to extremely difficult, some takes hours and even days to figure out. The simplicity and elegance of the rules have made Sokoban one of the most popular logic games.

3. Alexander Vikulin Filler 2.01 ( 1/1/1995, 142kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) An Othello-like game where you try to get more colors than your opponent.

1. XLM Software Crazy Gravity 2.42d ( 11/12/2001, 888kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) A cool little flying game, complete with obstacles and gravity to make matters dicey. This version is a little bit more recent, but in German.

3. Phenomedia Fische Versenken  ( 1/1/2003, 1530kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/26/2004 ) Throw dynamite into a calm forest pond, and see how many you catch!

4. Thom Wetzel Disasteroids 3D 1.3 ( 7/19/2001, 458kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) Disasteroids 3D is an OpenGL accelerated version of asteroids unlike any other! It has wicked 3D meteors, cool lighting effects, original asteroids sounds in stereo, an awesome 3D ship, particle effects, explosions, and force feedback support.

5. Remorseless Games Dispersion 1.04 ( 12/12/2000, 1100kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) A snazzy Asteroids variant with powerups, level bosses, special effects and slick graphics.

1. My-World Fun Run  ( 1/1/1999, 7890kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) A promo game for a German store, Karstadt. Race a VB Bug to pick up powerups, bonuses, and make the checkpoints on time.

1. Blue Thunder DXTris 1.5 ( 10/17/1999, 3700kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) A Tetris variant. Still here are the beautiful backdrops, customizable tiles, and catchy tunes. Now there are BOMBS! Plus a unique, fun Color Matching mode never seen before.

Mission

1. Volition FreeSpace 2  ( 216000kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) An advanced spaceship flying simulator with a good story line and excellent graphics.

2. Deadline Games Globetrotter 2  ( 418000kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) You have more need for an in-depth knowledge of flora, fauna and geology. You also need skills in sailing, driving a jeep and mountain climbing, as you take your own jeep on safari in the wilderness, cruise down narrow rivers in a rubber dinghy, and defy death to conquer the world's highest peaks. Iceland, the Sahara, Alaska, Costa Rica, Amazonas and Yemen are just some of the new places you get to visit.

1. Microsoft Hover  ( 6270kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) This game was originally included with Windows 95, inlcuding excellent non-violent gameplay in a smooth 3-D castle environment playing capture-the-flag against a computer opponent.

Racing

1. Grokksoft HoverRace 1.01 ( 1/1/1997, 2950kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) Race hovercrafts against time, or against people on the network. This is a game that had a lot of promise, but the company that made it disappeared.

Puzzle

1. Sierra Incredible Machine 3.0 ( 1/1/1995, 29400kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) A great puzzle-solving game good for learning problem-solving skills, and for learning how lots of different objects behave (kind of).

Racing

1. HP Jetspeed  ( 2210kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) A cool little racing game that supports up to four networked people.

Mission

1. Psygnosis Lemmings Paintball Demo 1.0 ( 1/1/1996, 3180kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) These lemmings are armed with paint! Make it through the enemy team without getting shot.

2. Psygnosis Lander  ( 116000kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) Slick gameplay and neat mouse flying control make this game worth the trouble of following the instructions in the Rip text file.

1. Psygnosis Lemmings .9 ( 1/1/1996, 2310kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) Twelve levels of the old Lemmings game. This is another example of a great game going into oblivion because the company disappears.

1. Minder Technology Mahjongg 4.0.2 ( 1/1/1999, 2670kb ) Download my copy ( as of 2/28/2004 ) A classic Chinese tile matching game, sure to keep you occupied for hours.
