Updates: Windows

Note: I'm in the process of converting my old set of plain ol' HTML pages into a long-overdue database-backed system, so check back later if you're missing something.

Patches and updates, especially for Windows. Try downloading them from their sources first (their connections are a lot faster, and you can download them all at once), but in the likely event they've made them unavailable, you can download most them from my site, or get them on the Great Stuff CD. (Note that Microsoft updates are not available from this site or on the Great Stuff CD.)

Critical Updates

  1. Microsoft Microsoft VM Security Update 810030 ( 10/29/2002, 5070kb ) )
The Microsoft VM is a virtual machine for the Win32® operating environment. The Microsoft VM shipped in most versions of Windows (a complete list is available in the FAQ), as well as in most versions of Internet Explorer. It also was available for some time as a separate download. A new patch for the Microsoft VM is available, which eliminates three security vulnerabilities. The attack vectors for all of them would likely be the same. An attacker would likely create a web page that, when opened, exploits the desired vulnerability, and either host it on a web page or send it to a user as an HTML mail.

Critical Updates

  1. Microsoft Security Update  ( 3/22/2001, 124kb ) )
This update resolves the "Erroneous VeriSign-Issued Digital Certificates Pose Spoofing Hazard" security vulnerability, and is discussed in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-017. Download now to prevent an unauthorized user from running code on your computer by digitally signing programs as "Microsoft Corporation." VeriSign, Inc. issued two VeriSign digital certificates to an individual who fraudulently claimed to be a Microsoft employee; this allows the individual to sign programs, ActiveX® controls, Office macros, and other executable content as originating from "Microsoft Corporation." This update prevents the two erroneously signed certificates from being accepted as valid. For more information about this update, read Microsoft Security Bulletin MS01-017.
