Not That Bad

Our lives are to be an effort to be as good as we can, not how much bad we can get away with. "Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect." Mat 5:48 and "You shall be holy, for I am holy." 1Pe 1:16

Mat 5:13-48

• Salt of the earth
  • Improve taste
  • Preserve good food
• Light of the world
  • Drive darkness away
  • Good works bring glory to God
• Law extended
  • Anger = murder
  • Lust = adultery
  • Divorce = adultery
  • Vows < trustworthiness
  • Revenge < self-denying humility
  • Hate enemies < Love enemies

Mat 6:25-30

• Seek first God's kingdom, and all we need will be taken care of

Pr 1:10

• "My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent."
  • Appeal of lust Pr 7:21-23 will ruin your life
  • Hanging out with fools will bring you harm Pr 13:20
  • Refuse invitation to sin, like Joseph did Gen 39:7-13, "How then could I do this great evil and sin against God?"

    • All goodness and righteousness and truth
    • Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord
    • Expose unfruitful deeds instead of participating with them
    • Be careful how you walk
    • Make the most of your time
    • Understand the will of the Lord
    • Be filled with the Spirit
    • Speak to one another in psalms, hymns, songs
    • Sing, make melody in your heart to God
    • Always giving thanks
  • Do not
    • Participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness Eph 5:11-20
    • Be deceived by the empty words by the sons of disobedience
    • Be partakers with them
      • Immorality, impurity
      • Greed, covetousness
      • Idolatry
      • Filthiness, silly talk
      • Coarse jesting
      • Deeds disgraceful even to speak of them
      • Deeds shameful to expose to the light [of God's Word]
      • Foolish use of time in evil days
      • Foolishly ignoring God's will
      • Getting drunk with drink
