Alternative to Word

We use Switch on Schoolhouse (SOS) with the older kids, but didn't want to load Microsoft Word on their (old) computers. Other than the cost, I didn't want to deal with performance issues. OpenOffice didn't work with SOS, but I did find Abiword does! It's waaay faster than OpenOffice and Word, and has all the core features for our nascent writers!
